It is going to get a lot worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With all\nthe grief and fear, we need to get out stuff together, and find a strategy to\nnavigate our business in these hard times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good\nnews I want to share with you, is that such a major event will offer plenty of\nopportunities for our businesses. This is not getting any better. This is just starting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t know what will be the final numbers. But it seems that a big part of our population will get the virus this time or another. The market will suffer during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Now_for_the_Good_News\"><\/span>Now for the Good News<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It will end!<\/strong> This is not the end of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The virus\nonly kills small percentage of the population. If you look at countries that\ntest more of the population, like South Korea and Germany, you see that the\nmortality rate is around 0.61%. Ignore the rates from Italy and US, they are\nsimply because of lack of testing. Act on time and you\u2019ll go out of this stronger than ever. Let me show\nyou how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Strategy\"><\/span>The Strategy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is\nto cut efforts that won\u2019t work in these times and to increase the efforts that\nwill produce assets. Those assets will yield profits when this situation ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short,\nwe will cut down on anything that serves us in the short term and focus on the\nlong term. We give up trying to earn in the short term, and we want to build\nour position for the good days to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First,\nlet\u2019s see what activities we can decrease now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember\nthis is only temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are\nsome ideas that can work to reduce your monthly spend and efforts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reduce your staff \u2013 if you pay monthly for work\nto support your clients, that could be reduced in this time. Your clients will\ndrop anyway now as this situation keeps progressing. <\/li><li>Reduce the paid advertising \u2013 If you paid 7% of\nyour income for advertising, try something like 2%-3%.<\/li><li>Decrease your rent. Even cancel it if you work\nfrom home. Or, at least use the situation to get a better deal. Yes, same as\nthe renter used the good times to increase the rent, now it is you who has the\nupper hand.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t chase after clients \u2013 these are futile\nefforts. They\u2019ll come when the COVID 19 situation ends. Just make sure you\u2019ll\nbe ready for them with the best service when the time comes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>OK, now\nthat you have cut down on those efforts, let\u2019s see our opportunities in this\ntime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should\nnow have more time and hopefully more money if you found how to cut things. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we\nwant to concentrate on building our business for the days to come. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like a captain\nof a sailboat, we are preparing for the wind that will come. The wind is the\neconomic recovery that will happen once this COVID 19 ends. Currently, we don\u2019t\nhave any wind, so we take down our sail and improve it. It might look like\nnothing happens now, but once our sail is ready, and the wind comes it will\ntake us faster than ever. I hope the metaphor makes sense; I tried my best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need to\nfocus on building assets. You might find them useless today, but they will\nserve you in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEO is\nthe perfect asset for your business<\/strong>. If you build it now, you\u2019ll promote yourself\nin the rankings and when the economy improves, you\u2019ll get the business you\ndeserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a\nfew examples of assets I suggest. I will focus on SEO here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Build backlinks \u2013 they should be cheaper these\ndays. Businesses are not spending much and the bloggers and other site owners\nwill be happy to get your money and provide you with a good backlink. That\ncould be a review of your business, a mention of your business, a comparison of\nyour service to other services. Whatever. Just keep building the backlinks.<\/li><li>Build content \u2013 search engines love good\ncontent. You can now write some posts on your blog, hire a content writer in\nless money than usual. Do videos on YouTube. Create infographics. Add images. <\/li><li>Improve your conversion rate \u2013 it is a good\ntime to test your site. Do some A\/B testing. The better your conversion rate,\nthe better your results will be when the visitors will come.<\/li><li>Fix the technical SEO issues \u2013 look at your SEO\naudit and fix the issues there.<\/li><li>Improve your UI \u2013 a designer would love to get\nwork in this time, and the cost might be half than it used to be.<\/li><li>Make you website responsive \u2013 if you didn\u2019t\nalready. Yes, people will keep using their mobile.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I said these\nare opportunities now because the slow market should make things cheaper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t feel\nbad about exploiting the situation to your favour. Even if you are paying half\nof the normal price, you still help people get paid in tough times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Learn_from_the_Pros\"><\/span>Learn from the Pros<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rough times\nare great for business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sounds weird\nright?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But smart people\nalways did that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warren Buffet\nsaid, \u201cA simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy and\nbe greedy when others are fearful\u201d.
